Objective of the Event:

  • To provide students with a foundational understanding of gemology, including its significance in the jewellery industry and its role in creating high-quality jewellery pieces.
  • To familiarize students with different types of gemstones, both precious and semi-precious, their characteristics, and their geological origins.
  • To teach students the essential techniques and tools used by gemologists to identify and differentiate gemstones based on their physical and optical properties.
  • To provide practical insights into the world of gemology and valuation, using real-life examples and demonstrations to enhance students' learning.

Description:

A guest Lecture was organized by the Jewellery Designing Department on “Gemstone and Valuation” on 9th September 2023 at 9.30 am to 12.30 p.m.  Mr. Ramesh Bhalla Founder of M.S. Sons, delivered his lecture on Gemstone and Valuation to provide students with valuable insights into the world of gemstones, their identification, grading, and the essential aspects of gemstone valuation.Mr. Ramesh Bhalla is a renowned gemologist and an expert in gemstone valuation with over 20 years of experience in the field. Their extensive knowledge and expertise made them the perfect choice to deliver this lecture.. The lecture began with an overview of gemology, explaining its significance in the field of jewellery designing. The speaker emphasized the importance of understanding the properties and characteristics of gemstones to create exquisite jewellery pieces. He discussed various types of gemstones, including precious and semi-precious stones and elaborated on the unique features and geological origins of each type, offering examples and visuals to enhance the students' understanding. He further explained about the Identification, Sorting and Grading of gemstones and diamonds and also of organic gem minerals (i.e., Pearls, Amber, Coral, shell ). He showed the inclusions that appear in diamonds and gemstones and also their significance. He further explained students about the assortment and evaluation of gemstones. The purpose of this lecture was to make the students learn various qualities of gemstones, their identification, sorting and grading.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to seek clarifications and gain further insights into gemology and valuation. The guest speaker patiently addressed all queries and shared additional tips and resources for those interested in pursuing a career in gemology.   • Real-life examples and practical demonstrations provided students with hands-on experience in gemstone identification and valuation, making the theoretical concepts more tangible.
