Report on “Fabric Texture”

 

Date:   26.02.2015

Activity: Workshop

 

The department of Fashion & Textile Technology conducted a Workshop for Fashion Designing (COSD) students on “Fabric Texture” on 26.0215 in GPEM Lab. The resource person for the same was Ms Neha Mathur from Pidilite. Initially the designs were traced on the fabric. The workshop was focussed on application of fabric glue on the fabric for laminating the design and the application of colours to give glossy texture used in designing. Different types of cut were also done on the laminated fabric to give cutwork design on to the fabric. Students learnt the use of fabric glue and acrylic colours for designing and created motifs for cushion covers, coasters, runners and table mats.

The students showed their keen interest by participating in the activity. The workshop was very informative and the students learnt the techniques enthusiastically. This workshop was very fruitful for the students as it helped them to create their own products in innovative style. Twenty eight students participated in the workshop.

Report on “The Art of Sari Draping”

Activity: Demonstration

 

A demonstration on “The Art of Sari Draping” was organised by the Fashion Design Guild on 11th Feb.2015. The resource person for the activity was Miss Aksha Agarwal who is an entrepreneur. The Tradition of wearing sari in India is lasting since long. It is considered as a classic style, where different regions have its different style of draping. In India people wear saris in about more than 80 styles in different regions. This knowledgeable session helped the students know styles of draping sari. She demonstrated the basic style, followed by Bengali-style, Mumtaz-style, Lehanga-style sari, Parsi-style, Mermaid-style and few more. The students have then practiced draping of different styles of sari. The demonstration gave an insight on the rules and precautions while draping saris.

The students showed their keen interest by participating in the activity. This workshop was very fruitful for the students as it helped them to drape sari in innovative style. Fifty students attended the demonstration on sari.

Report on “Different brush strokes on Fabric”

Venue: Clothing Lab

Activity: Workshop

 

The Fashion Design Guild conducted a Workshop on “Different brush strokes on Fabric” on 10.1.15 in GPEM Lab. The resource person for the same was Dr.Sulekha Ojha, Ms. Lakshmi Agarwal and Monika Agarwal. Initially the designs were traced on the fabric. The workshop was focussed on application of different brush strokes and textures on the fabric for developing different products used in designing. Various types of strokes were applied with round and flat brushes. Students learnt the use various Fabric and acrylic colours for shading and created motifs for handkerchiefs and scroll-design for photo-frames. The fabric-painted scrolls made on the fabric were then utilized for making photo-frames.

All the participants enthusiastically learnt cutting, mounting of card-board for the preparation of photo frames. The session was very informative and the students learnt the techniques enthusiastically. This workshop was very fruitful for the students as it helped them to create their own products in innovative style. 20 students participated in the workshop.

Report on “Do It Yourself - Nail Art”

Activity:  Demonstration

An individual’s self- concept is the core of her personality. It affects every aspect of her behaviour: the ability to learn, the capacity to grow and change. A strong positive self- image is the best possible preparation for success in life.

A demonstration on nail art was organised by the Fashion Design Guild on 18th Sept.2014. Ms. Monika Sharma was the resource person for the activity.

Keeping with the current trends in nail painting and art, demonstration of various ways of application of nail paint (single, double and multi colour) was carried out. Students enjoyed learning and practising trendy patterns, symbols thereby creating myriad formations on their own.

 Following were different methods demonstrated:

  • Two- tone look with paint over patterns.
  • Use of tape to create block designs.
  • Transfer of newspaper print onto the applied paint.
  • Use of reinforcement stickers to obtain cool designs.
  • Use of sponge, loofah, crumpled plastic sheet.
  • Splashing and scribbling with other nail colour creating graffiti nails.
  • Use of glitter powder and glitter top coat.
  •  

The workshop immensely helped and motivated students to groom themselves. They undertook application of trendy nail art.

Report on visit to Sikar House

Activity: Visit

 

A visit to Sikar House was organised by the Fashion Design Guild for the students on 23rd August, 2014.Sikar House located in Banipark, Jaipur. Sikar House is a hub of fabric sourcing for garments, salwar suits, kurtis, upholstery, bedspreads and bed cover and running fabrics of highest quality. The visit was conducted with the aim to give the students knowledge about the variety of fabrics available in the market and their utility in various aspects and its application in field of fashion.

Students found the visit to be highly informative and useful. 25 students were part of this visit which proved to be very beneficial in terms of exploration in textiles.
