Description:The Jewellery Designing Department hosted a guest lecture on "Jewellery Designing Using CAD" on August 24th, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The session was led by Ms. Unnati Agarwal, a skilled designer and  senior merchandiser at GemColorz Ltd,  Export House, renowned for her extensive expertise in using CorelDRAW, Rhino, and Matrix for jewellery design.

Ms. Agarwal commenced her presentation with an introduction to CorelDRAW, a versatile graphic design software, emphasizing its key features and advantages for crafting intricate and precise jewellery designs. She then showcased how Rhino and Matrix can be utilized to streamline the entire design process, from initial concept development to final digital rendering. Additionally, she highlighted the distinctions between 2D and 3D design software, offering valuable insights to the students.

The session focused on several key topics:

  • Introduction to CAD: Gaining an understanding of the interfaces and essential tools of CorelDRAW, Rhino, and Matrix for jewellery design.
  • Design Techniques: Exploring various techniques and tools within CorelDRAW, Rhino, and Matrix to craft intricate jewellery designs.
  • Creating Templates and Patterns: Utilizing CorelDRAW, Rhino, and Matrix to develop templates and patterns that can be seamlessly translated into physical jewellery pieces.
  • Colour Theory and Visual Appeal: Learning how to effectively apply colour, texture, and shading in the software to elevate the aesthetic appeal of designs.

Throughout the lecture, Ms. Agarwal provided practical demonstrations and encouraged students to engage with the software. She also emphasized the importance of integrating traditional design principles with digital tools to achieve professional results.

The students, including those from BSc. Jewellery Design & Technology, MA/MCom./MSc. Jewellery Design, and COSD Jewellery, actively participated in the hands-on session. They explored various features of (CorelDRAW, Rhino and Matrix ) under Ms. Agarwal’s guidance, which facilitated a deeper understanding of digital design in the context of jewellery.

The event wrapped up with an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing students to clear up any doubts and gain further insights from Ms. Agarwal. Dr. Neeru Jain, the Head of the Jewellery Designing Department, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing appreciation to Ms. Unnati Agarwal for her enlightening lecture and practical guidance, which greatly enhanced the students' learning experience in the realm of digital jewellery design.
