Objective: 

This course will enable the students to –

  1. Impart the knowledge of Gemology & the use of various laboratory equipment such as the gemological microscope, dichroscope, polar scope, specific gravity balance, refract meter, ultraviolet light, spectroscope, and other instruments used in gem identification.
  2. Acquire a thorough knowledge of all precious and semi-precious stones and the ways in which they are used in jewelry.

Introduction to Gemology

The students will –

 

CO26: Interpret basic concepts of Gemology.

CO27: Appraise gemstones (natural gemstone, synthetic gemstone, manmade gemstone and assembled gemstone.)

CO28: Learn about different gemstone testing equipment and the use of this equipment for the purpose of gemstone identification.

CO29: Analyse different properties of gemstones which will be helpful in their identification.
