Internship and Quality Assessment 

 CO118: Develop Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking and other Skills necessary to work successfully in an organization. Relate classroom learning to real – life applications, gauge and evaluate differences classroom learning and professional work atmosphere.

CO119: Compile comprehensive practical records detailing plans related to jewellery design across diverse institutional settings and cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.

CO120: Contribute effectively in course-specific interaction.

CONTENTS

Jewellery Industry: Manual & CAD Design and Quality Control

Course Overview

At the beginning of the sixth semester, students will undertake a six-month internship in the gem and jewellery industry. This internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to real-world industry practices, equipping students with technical expertise in manual and CAD jewellery design as well as quality control.

Internship Structure

  1. Manual & CAD Jewellery Design Training

During this phase, students will:

  • Learn about market trends, client requirements, and concept development.
  • Develop hand sketching techniques for rings, pendants, necklaces, bangles, and earrings.
  • Gain proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Rhino, Matrix, JewelCAD, Tinkercad) to create precise digital jewellery models.
  • Understand design technicalities, including gemstone settings, metal thickness, and 3D rendering.
  • Work on real-world projects to translate manual designs into CAD models.
  1. Quality Control & Assessment

A key focus area will be quality assessment, including:

  • Inspection techniques for raw materials, gemstones, and finished products.
  • Identifying defects in manufacturing, casting, and finishing.
  • Understanding hallmarking, certification, and industry standards.
  • Learning about quality grading of diamonds, gemstones, and metals.
  • Conducting final product evaluation before market release.

Internship Report Guidelines

At the end of the internship, students must submit a detailed report documenting their experiences. The report should include:

  • Background of the Industry
  • Overview of the organization and its specialization (fine jewellery, costume jewellery, gemstone manufacturing, etc.)
  • Company history and major clientele.
  • Workforce & Operational Structure
  • Number of employees and their roles.
  • Departments and hierarchy within the company.
  • Manufacturing Process
  • Step-by-step production workflow, from design to final product.
  • Techniques and machinery used.
  • Manual & CAD Design Work

Internship Report Submission: Students must submit a detailed project report along with sketches OR CAD renderings.

Presentation & Viva Voce: Students will present their internship experience to a panel, followed by an oral examination.

Certification: Completion certificates (TWO)from the respective organization is mandatory to validate the following experience :
